Room Reveals

A Bedroom Makeover For Under $300!

November 1, 2017

Remember this sad scene?  This room didn’t have storage, lighting or anywhere to sit and relax.  The room definitely needed a change. Check out the bedroom inspiration post to see how the vision turned into a plan and now the final reveal!

It was pretty easy to bring all the ideas together. How did I do it? By making sure I had a plan!  You can start by saving décor pictures you find online or rooms with a similar style.  The photo above is featured on Shutterfly’s small bedroom ideas page, that is a great place to start as there are many stunning inspiration photos for every room in your home.  The rug and the over-sized poster really brighten up the room and the dark wall created a defined space for the bed as we couldn’t have a headboard with the window.

The Pendleton blanket was a Christmas gift from the husband to the wife in their first home and was the starting point for the makeover of our bedroom.  The blanket brings in a nice pattern against the black wall and is so warm and cozy.

This leather chair was previously in the living room but since changing the furniture it no longer worked in that space, so we brought it into the bedroom for a little reading nook area. The couple actually found this leather chair on Craiglist of all places, for only $70! Craigslist is always great for more expensive items at a discounted price.

I was so happy to find these side tables at Home Sense!  What a score!  They were $60 each, which compared to everything else I had seen, online and in store, was considerably less expensive.  They look great with the bed and the dark wall, plus have a drawer for storage and books.

These Ikea swing lamps were also a great deal, and only $30.  I wasn’t sure about the black on black but the gold hardware really makes the light pop.  This brought valuable light into the room as there were only two small pot lights overhead.

I am beyond excited for an organized sidetable! The side tables are a game changer for this room.  Having a place for jewelry, the book your currently reading and of course fresh flowers.

These florals looked absolutely stunning against the black wall.  These flowers were from Whole Foods, you might be thinking that must have been expensive, but they weren’t! Only around $30 for this bouquet.  Plus it was very unique.

COST BREAKDOWN

Ikea Swing Arm Lamps – $30 each
Queen West Side Tables – $60 each
Little Paper Planes Poster – $40
Bed Frame: $130
Behr Black Paint: $40 (had all the other materials)

Leather Chair: Client owned ($70 off Craigslist originally)
Black Ottoman: Client owned ($30 from Home Sense)
Shine Bright Light: Client owned ($20 from Home Sense)
Oversized Pillows: Already owned

TOTAL COST of BEDROOM MAKEOVER: $300

To make over a space with items you already own is the perfect way to save money and get the budget down. Perhaps you have pieces that are not being utilized in another room, or by moving items around in your current room you can create a whole new space.

Did I mention the view from the window seat is pretty spectacular? This room has now turned into a space to be cozy and hang out in. No more mattress on the floor!

3 Ways to Get Organized The budget office storage 3 Ways to Get Organized

The budget office storage was revealed last week, so let's talk organization! This was the key to the storage closet. Everything has a place and there should be minimal clutter.
It becomes pretty frustrating when we constantly have to look for items we want to use. Getting organized not only creates less clutter, it saves you time!
1. Throw away items you no longer use - I know it seems straight forward, but sometimes it can be difficult. This closet previously housed a lot of junk that was no longer needed.

2. Use storage containers - Image if all the contents of those baskets were simply stacked in each shelf, it would feel very disorganized. Baskets are a small investment to help you get organized.

3. Create a labeling system - Whether you have a label maker or purchase labels or make these DIY paper lables I made, labels are key to being organized.

Do you remember what this closet looked like before? Swipe right to see. ➡️ It wasn't pretty. Now all of the craft supplies, paper, cords, wrapping etc have a place to be stored. The baskets create a clean look and keep this space clutter free.
I don't what to pick a favorite but I think this little closet makeover is one of my favorite budget room makeovers. More photos over on the blog.
