Ok I don’t want to admit to having a favorite but IF I had to, well I think it might be this Budget Closet Makeover. I cannot believe the transformation. Before this closet was piled high with items not being used or simply thrown in the closet without thought. I have taken most of those items and more from another room, creating a clutter free space. Can you see the wrapping paper, crafting supplies, or paper? You can’t, because everything has a place for storage.

I already revealed a couple sneak peaks of the office closet. Showed you how I created the DIY Basket Tags and how I used Thrifted Books to create affordable décor. Both of those projects were budget friendly options for this room makeover.

By taking out the old metal closet system, it really opened up the space. The closet actually became a small room. This allowed all of the storage to be placed at the back, so there was room to craft, use the printer, or get materials. The Kallax shelving I used on the bottom almost didn’t work. The dimensions were perfect, almost too perfect. I wasn’t able to slide the shelving into position so I had to build it in place. In the end I built 80% of the shelf in place and for the last side I had to use an industrial glue to keep it in place. I am confident this shelving system is not going ANYWHERE.

The nice thing about Ikea is that it can be affordable but also they create pieces to work together. The Kallax system has several basket choices, as a result makes it really versatile. The baskets were key in the design so I was able to keep the space clutter free and label each basket. Now there is no searching for scissors or tape or craft supplies, simply grab the labeled basket.

I will say the biggest surprise in the room was adding in the Stendig Wall Calendar. It makes such a statement in the room but was a good alternative to a piece of art. The large calendar really brings the room together and is also visually appealing.

The budget for this room was $400 and I was right on budget. Keep in mind I added a lot of storage to the space that wasn’t there before as well as better lighting. Another idea with a closet space like this is to create a small home office. It would be a very similar price. Instead of the Kallax shelving, you would add a desk with ample storage. The best part about this type of space is at the end of the day you can simply shut the door.
