See that bathroom above? There’s nothing horribly wrong with it, but it’s pretty beige. I’m not a huge fan of beige. Why did someone think it was a good idea to paint the walls the same colour as the mirrors? Are we trying to blend everything together? Hiding the mirrors? It confuses me. Time for a bathroom makeover.

After a couple years of staring at these beige mirrors, I realized I needed a change. No more beige. I don’t have the budget to replace the vanity, which would be a huge change for the space, so I am going to outline the small changes I am going to make that you can also easily do. A room makeover doesn’t always mean tearing everything out and starting over. Sometimes it means we have to work with what we have and go from there.

Keeping in mind the basic vanity will be staying, looking around the room, can you guess what could be updated on a budget? I think it’s pretty obvious but good to ask, so you can start looking at spaces and see the easy updates that can be made. With this bathroom makeover, it is going to be simple updates, like the beige mirrors.

Here is my inspiration board for the bathroom. I know gold or brass is all the rage, I am not sure if fits with this bathroom. Plus it would be a HUGE expense to change out all of the fixtures. In this case I am going to stay with the silver. I think it works. As you can see I am only changing a few pieces like the mirrors and light fixtures, also adding in some decor like artwork, plants and a shelf.
Thinking of making over your bathroom? For me, starting with the fixtures was key. I knew it would be silver, which then influenced the rest of my bathroom. If you are drawn to a fun wall colour maybe you then pair your fixtures and decor to match with that colour.
The best place to start is an inspiration board.
You will start to see patterns in what you are drawn to, whether it’s colours or finishing’s or design style. An inspiration board will really help you get clear on what you want in your own space. Then to bring it all together on page like my mini design board above can visually help you see it. Sometimes when you bring the images or design pieces together it might not work the way you want it to but it’s easier to visualize.

My final thought on making over a space on a budget is to go for it! There is no right or wrong, if you like a certain style or wallpaper or brass faucet, do it. Design is so unique to the person, and a bathroom is a little oasis you can have fun with, if you want.
